'Could you pass me the pepper and salt, please?'

'Ahhh, I'm sorry?'

'Yes... the pepper and salt...'

THE BEST ENGLISH:

'Could you pass me the salt and pepper please?'

'Ahhhhh, the salt and pepper! Yes, of course. Here you are.'

'When I go to Britain, my favourite food is chips and fish!'

'Chips and fish... hmm...'

'Chips and fish - no?'

'I'm afraid I don't understand...'

'When I go to Britain, my favourite food is... fish and chips!'

'Ahh, fish and chips - of course! Me too!'

'You know I'm a photographer, and my favourite type of photography is... white and black!.

'White and black...'

'Yes, white and black photography, you know...?'

'Err, no, I don't know.'

'My favourite type of photography is... black and white!'

'Ahh, black and white photography. Now I understand!'

(I told you the English were very strange!)
